I’ve known Ana for a very long time. We studied at the same middle and high school and had a few friends in common, but were never really close. Then on my first day of university she was a familiar face in my class, and that was the start of a beautiful and highly meaningful friendship for which I am thankful every day.

Ana is one of those friends who add only positive things to your life. She has a unique personality, a vey authentic sense of humour, and once you get to know her well, it’s impossible not to be in a good mood when you’re with her.

In 2014 she moved to New York for work and it was there that she met Paul. They started dating in 2015 and have built a strong relationship based on so much complicity. The first time I saw them together I was immensely happy for her because Paul was everything she needed – an easygoing, very respectful guy who kept things simple and always fun, because that’s how she is too.

Then last year, while they were planning a weekend getaway to Montreal, Paul sent me a message: ‘’Shhhh! Sooo I’m going to propose to Ana while we’re in Montreal, I’m hoping you can be my confidant as I make my plan ». He didn’t want to do anything complicated, just wanted to do it at a place that we would be visiting during their stay. I was SO excited.

So the next day they arrived on a beautiful sunny day. My husband and I  headed to Mont Royal Park to take a walk with them, and without Ana even dreaming about it, he asked her to marry him. People around clapped, it was emotional, and everything was just perfect and they were so, so happy they could not stop smiling.

Whenever I photograph a couple, all that I can ask for is two people who are happy together and in love. But on this day I got a lot more. These two people happened to be good friends of mine, were just recently engaged, and we got to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets that I’ve ever seen in Montreal. The light was just incredibly perfect to get a few portraits of them on such a special moment.

This is a day I will always remember. I am so genuinely happy for you guys!
